Labor Day Weekend 2013

We love long holiday weekends at our house, but it's always difficult to get back into the daily grind!  That extra day really messes with us . . .

Here's a snapshot of how we spent our holiday weekend . . .

Friday: we met our friends, Jake + Mer Johnson, out for dinner at Tally's in Beaverdale!  It was great to see them and let the boys catch up - Mer + I see each other more often than they do.  We also had Cooper with us, so they put us in a back corner with space for him to roam and throw food.  Seriously . . . that's the #1 thing I dislike about taking him to restaurants . . . food goes to the floor and I always feel so embarrassed about it.  I try and clean up as much as possible, but if you've ever taken a toddler to a restaurant you know a lot of that is crumbs and it's difficult to get it all.

Saturday:  we have season tickets to the Iowa State Cyclone football games again this year and the first game of the season was this past Saturday!  Nick was really excited for college football season to start, but I still feel like it's too early for some reason.  Maybe because it's been 100* lately . . . I need some 70* weather for the football season to officially start!  Anyways . . . we didn't tailgate as long as we normally would because of the heat and because I wanted to stop at the bookstore and a couple other places to look for ISU clothes.  Once we got to the lots, we found the Conzetts in D3!

Oh and Cooper isn't really invited to tailgate with us quite yet, but here's a photo of him sporting his gear prior to us leaving for the game!

Also - I guess I should mention Iowa State lost to University of Northern Iowa.  It's sad.  I'm worried it's going to be a long season . . .

Sunday: we FaceTimed with Aunt Cari to wish her a Happy Birthday and then went to brunch with Grandma + Grandpa Martens!  After that I went shopping with my mom for a little bit . . . it's rare that I get out of the house to do shopping these days.  I typically have EVERYTHING sent to my house.  I almost like it better . . . Sunday evening we went to the Clewis' house for some dinner and catching up!  It was so fun to see everyone and to have the three boys play together . . . even though they are at different ages and stages of their lives, they all enjoyed playing with each other!
Cooper stole Tre's backpack and almost wore it around the entire night!  Better get his dog backpack out again!

Justine working on "Mychals Corn" - pretty yummy!

Drinks!  I'm a huge fan of Redds/Woodchuck/Angry Orchard!

Monday:  Nick golfed while Cooper + I hung out all day!  Cooper took a very long nap and afterwards we went to the grocery store!
*please note that I do not typically have that many items in his crib at one time.  he's becoming obsessed with all of his a+a items and i honestly do not think he's in danger.  ;)

    1. Annie! So sorry I'm just getting back to you! I'm glad I was able to make you feel better - don't ever worry that you're doing anything wrong as a mama. You're his mom and you know him best! These boys are old enough and strong enough AND SMART enough to have more than one blankie in bed with them now. My mom always told me her and my dad took us 3 kids out to eat and everywhere with them in public so we could learn how to act in public . . . I'm trying very hard to do that with Cooper, but sometimes it's difficult when he makes a scene :) Just remember we aren't the first ones to go thru it and to be honest I've apologized for his actions in Target or a restaurant and maybe people are just being nice, but they tell me not to worry and it's all part of his age and development.
